HOW YOU CAN HELP TO BREAK THE SILENCE AROUND THEIR STRUGGLE
If someone you know is struggling with their mental health, it’s unlikely they’ll reach for help straight away. And if they do, it’s most likely they’ll turn to friends or family before speaking to a professional - so your supportive response is important.
If you are worried about someone, knowing how and when to support them is valuable beyond words. There are two main opportunities:
In the moment - be a companion. One that is ready to not solve anything just now, instead, listen and be present for them as they process and express their feelings.
When the moment has passed - be gentle but, proactive. You can do this by asking questions and exploring resources together that might be able to support them.
